Pastor Notes ...
What a wonderful time to be a pastor!
Even though ministry and family life felt a bit overwhelming in October...stepping back and looking at the big picture….things are actually great!
This month we’ve been a bit anxious thinking about the Council nominations for the next year and the budget planning for our future. Yuck. Turns out we have several new people who feel called to serve as Council leaders. That doesn’t happen too often. When I look at how our congregation has grown this past year, budget planning for 2009 will be more exciting than in the past because we are a larger community with over 40 new members this year! Church life is exciting!
In October I attended the annual Leadership conference in Palm Desert. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend this retreat and “catch up” with my colleagues and pastoral friends.
As many of you know I also was nominated to serve on the Board of Convocator’s at California Lutheran University. The main role for the Convocation is to be sure the University and the Board of Regents are keeping the business and leadership of the school in check with the mission and ministry of the greater ELCA. Each year in October we meet during Founder’s Day at the University and discuss the spiritual state of the University. Thanks again for supporting me in my call to serve not only St. Olaf but also the greater church.
In the middle of all of this traveling this month my family and I also moved to a larger condominium about 100 yards within the same gated community. We were blessed with this opportunity to move into this three bedroom and had to make the move rather quickly. It was hard, but thanks to Brian O’Farrell and Karen Wishart we were able to move everything from one unit to the next in ONE day! Now we have the organization to deal with. Even our pets are enjoying their private space!
A special “thank you” to Pastor Paul Farley from the Mount of Olives congregation who filled the pulpit for me. We spent some valuable time as a family with my daughter at California Lutheran University attending the Family Weekend and Homecoming festivities in October as well. Yes, Cal Lu smashed the Pitzer University football team and are so far undefeated!
Thanks for all your support and love for my family and me as we continue in shared ministry!
